I use surgical steel posts because they are stronger and they don't bend as easily. On the dangle earrings I use a mechanical comfort clutch on the posts. The comfort clutch does a better job of supporting the earring and the mechanism inside the clutch lasts longer that the rubber friction clutches.
On the non-dangle post earrings I use sterling silver omega clips. The omega clips support the earring very well and further reduce the risk of losing an earring.
Most of the non-dangle post earrings can also be made as clip earrings. I use nickel findings for clip earrings because of their greater tensile strength. My clip earrings come with a set of foam pads for greater comfort.
